Even if you have never been to Australia before, you have probably heard of the Gold Coast in Queensland. Of course if you are planning a holiday to the land of surf and sand, there are plenty of other things to do besides go to Warner Bros. Movie World, Wet N Wild, Dreamworld or SeaWorld.
The Gold Coast is located about an hour’s drive south of Brisbane, and about a 9 hour drive, or a 45 minute flight, from Sydney (click here for flight details). The weather on the Gold Coast is beautiful all year round. You can expect a sub-tropical climate, with temperatures ranging between 19° and 29° in the summer, and 9° and 21° during the winter months.
One of the best ways to see everything that area has to offer is to hire a car. Stay in Surfers Paradise for a couple of nights and you will be in the middle of everything. Take a ride on the Aquaduck. Not only will you glide along the beach front, but you will also get to cruise through the Broadwater and the harbour. Hire a pontoon boat and you and your family and friends can go fishing, barbecue a delicious lunch and spend the day out at sea. Cruise through the canals in Surfers Paradise while you relax onboard your very own pleasure boat. Fly like a bird, and charter a seaplane. The views are spectacular over South Stradbroke Island and the spectacular Queensland coast.
The Gold Coast Hinterland is where you will find the untouched beauty of the rainforest. Drive up to Mount Tamborine and stay in a cosy bed and breakfast inn. Wander through Gallery Walk in Eagle Heights and shop for handcrafted souvenirs. You will experience heart stopping action at Thunderbird Park as you zipline through the lush green tropical forest. Glide past waterfalls, ancient Staghorn ferns, Elephant ears, and Hairy Gardenia. Head over to O’Reilly’s and go for a tree top walk. You can even take a Segway tour.
Think out of the box when you plan your next holiday to the Gold Coast. Chances are you will see things that most travel guides will never tell you about.
